Long Time, No See!

Hey everyone! It’s been almost two months to the day since we posted our last development blog. Things are really looking up, and we’re excited to show you what we’ve been working on! Instead of separating this post into categories, I’m going to put it all together to make things easier—sort of like how we’ve spent the last month or so putting everything together! :)

Nearing the finish line

As you can see in the image above, all ten of our characters are finished! Everyone has a sprite, portrait, animations, dialogue, conversations, and more. In fact, we’re about 90-95% asset complete with the game. Almost all of the environments, enemies, backgrounds, items, music, and writing are done. We still have a few things to tweak with the UI and menus, but just about everything is done and ready to be put into the game. We’ve been posting screenshots frequently on Twitter, so if you want to get an idea of what the finished game will look like, check out some of the scenes our excellent artist Sarah has put together!

Speaking of Twitter, we’re also giving followers a closer look at our characters. You may remember that we did a series of in-character tweets several months ago. We’ve redesigned them and will be reposting them, as we’ve gained a lot of new followers since then. (The REM Cycles page almost has more followers than my personal page!) Keep an eye out on Twitter to see what our cast has to say. Trust me, they’re very chatty.

Our colorful cast of 10! There must be someone you’re curious about.

Putting the puzzle together

Our main goal right now is putting all the different parts of the game together. It really is like a puzzle—one that puts our design and mechanics to the test. We’ve written the gameplay and interactions out on paper, but you never know how things will fit together until you see it in action. We know of a few character moves and enemy attacks that we want to change, but we’re going to leave them mostly the way they are so we can get feedback from future testers.

We’re not too far away from testing! We recently updated our internal build, and we’re all taking the time to look through it and check out newly-implemented characters and enemies. We also recently sent out our second publisher pitch—wish us luck! In the meantime, we’re all pitching in with design and trying not to check our email every 5 minutes. A watched inbox never updates.

If you’re interested in being a beta tester for the game, please email us here or join our Discord here! We’re not quite to that point yet, but if you let us know you’re interested now, you’ll be at the top of the list to test our first public build. We’re excited to share what we’ve made, and the more people we have testing it, the better it will be!

That’s about it for this development update! As usual, stay tuned to our social media accounts for up-to-the-minute updates and cross your fingers for our publisher applications. We’re so close to the end that we can almost taste it!
